College Basketball

The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team overcame a 10-point halftime deficit, and shaded Wisconsin-Green Bay 72-70 in an exhibition match yesterday. Phoenix head coach Doug Gottlieb didn’t show the Huskies much respect in a pregame press conference, disparaging Tech as “Nobody U.” Perhaps he feels differently after Marcus Tomashek scored 30 for the Huskies, including a late three-pointer and two free throws that sealed the win. Tomashek graduated from nearby Ashwaubenon High School.

NHL

The Red Wings flew past the Flyers 6-4 last night. Patrick Kane broke out of his slump with the game-winning goal, and also added an assist. J.T. Compher, Alex DeBrincat, Michael Rasmussen, Joe Veleno and Lucas Raymond also found the net. Alex Lyon returned after a nine-game absence, and made 15 saves.

Simon Edvinsson left the game early with an upper body injury. He’ll be evaluated today.

The Wings welcome the Canadiens tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons will host the Jazz tonight.

NFL

Yet another Detroit Lion has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Defensive end John Cominsky hasn’t played since tearing an ACL last summer. There was hope that he could return for some late games, but doctors now say that won’t happen.
