In girls high school basketball tournament action tonight…
– In Division Two – Houghton begins play at home against Escanaba. Our broadcast will begin at 5:10 ahead of a 5:30 tip-off on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com. Gladstone will host Kingsford in the other semifinal.

– Calumet lost to Negaunee 61-25. Trevor Torola scored 10 for the Copper Kings.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell defeated Hancock 62-56. Caleb Gregoire scored 30 for the Lakes. Blake Raasio had 19 for the Bulldogs.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City cruised past Republic-Michigamme 84-33.
– Jeffers stopped Baraga 68-54.
– Ontonagon downed Watersmeet 68-47.
– Ewen-Trout Creek lost to Wakefield-Marenisco 73-65.
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
In the GLIAC basketball tournament last night...
The Michigan Tech men’s team moved ahead to the semifinals with a 75-56 victory over Saginaw Valley State. Owen White led the Huskies with 22 points.
The Northern Michigan men’s team stunned top-seeded Ferris State 70-69.
Tech will face second-seed Grand Valley State in the semifinals Saturday in Allendale. Northern will take on Northwood.
The Tech women’s team ended its season with a 65-34 loss to Grand Valley State. in the quarterfinals.
The Northern women’s team lost to Parkside 80-67.
Finlandia University
In Florida, the Finlandia baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Alvernia University yesterday, 16-4 and 25-0.
The Lions play two against St. John’s of Minnesota today.
The Finlandia softball team resumes play today, with games against Kenyon College and Grove City College.
Finlandia’s Joe Heinonen has been named to the American Collegiate Athletic Association All-Conference second team.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings host the Chicago Blackhawks Friday. Coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons entertain the Oklahoma City Thunder this evening.
The Pistons may need to finish the season without Derrick Rose. The ankle sprain he suffered in Sunday’s loss at Sacramento will be evaluated in two weeks, but could keep him out longer.
MLB
In spring baseball, the Detroit Tigers collected just two hits in a 5-1 loss to the Minnesota Twins yesterday. Starter Dario Agrazal gave up two runs over two innings. Prospect Kody Clemens homered.
The Tigers face the Boston Red Sox this afternoon.
The Milwaukee Brewers got just one hit, as they fell 9-0 to the San Diego Padres yesterday. Starter Shelby Miller turned in two scoreless innings.
The Brewers play the Chicago White Sox today.
There’s word that Milwaukee is close to signing a big contract extension with outfielder Christian Yelich. Reports say it’s for at least seven-years, for more than $200 million.
Great Bear Chase
Online registration for the Great Bear Chase closes tonight. Saturday’s event will include 50, 25 and 10k Freestyle and Classic races, along with a 50k Skiathlon. On-site registration will take place Friday between 4:00 and 8:30 at Calumet High School. There will be no race-day registration.
Online sign-up for Friday’s Junior Bear Chase also ends tonight. On-site registration will take place along with bib pick-up between 4:00 and 5:00 Friday at the Swedetown Chalet, with races beginning shortly afterward.
