College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team spotted Northern Michigan University an early goal yesterday, then shut the Wildcats out for the rest of the game, on the way to a 4-1 victory. Arvid Caderoth tied the contest with his first collegiate goal. Tyler Rockwell netted the game-winner in the second period. Alec Broetzman added an insurance tally in the third period, and Tyrell Buckley scored his first collegiate goal with a late empty-netter. Blake Pietila made 32 saves.
The win was the seventh straight for the Huskies, who had cracked the top-20 of the USCHO poll earlier in the day, at number-18.
College Basketball
Both Michigan Tech basketball teams will face Northern Michigan tonight. The women’s contest starts at 5:30 in Houghton. The men’s game will tip off at 7:30 in Marquette.
College Soccer
The Finlandia University women’s soccer team has introduced a new recruit. Shannon Mattson is a defender from Zimmerman, Minnesota.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 119-104 last night. Delon Wright turned in his best game of the season, leading Detroit with 28 points and nine assists. Jerami Grant added 25.
The Pistons visit the Cleveland Cavaliers tomorrow. Coverage begins at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings visit the Dallas Stars tonight. Coverage begins at 8:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
NFL
The Detroit Lions have landed another coach from the Los Angeles Rams. Aubrey Pleasant will become Detroit’s defensive backs coach and defensive passing game coordinator. He is a native of Flint. The Lions are also bringing in former NFL running back Duce Staley. He’ll coach running backs, and serve as the assistant head coach. He’s been on the Philadelphia Eagles’ staff for the past 10 years, but was recently passed over when they hired a new head coach. Both Lions additions have been widely reported, but have not been officially confirmed by the team.
