Tech Hockey Sweeps NMU – Sunday Sports Wrap

MTU

The Michigan Tech hockey team won its third straight game last night, defeating Northern Michigan University 3-1 in a non-WCHA contest. Alec Broetzman put the Huskies up early, with a first period goal. Brian Halonen scored the eventual game-winner early in the third period. The Wildcats got one back on a Vincent de Mey tally two-and-a-half minutes later, but Tommy Parrottino’s goal shortly thereafter ended the scoring, and sealed the win.

Blake Pietila made 21 saves for Tech. Connor Ryckman stopped 29 shots for Northern.

With no Great Lakes Invitational tournament this year, the Huskies are off until they host Alabama-Huntsville in their first conference games January 2nd and 3rd.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons concluded their exhibition schedule with a 99-96 loss to the Wizards last night. Derrick Rose and Jerami Grant each scored 14 for Detroit, and Grant grabbed nine rebounds. Josh Jackson had 13 points and eight boards.

MLB

Detroit Tigers pitching prospect Alex Faedo is headed to the operating room. He will undergo Tommy John ligament reconstruction surgery on his pitching elbow. He will likely miss the entire 2021 season. Faedo was Detroit’s top draft pick in 2017.

NFL

The Green Bay Packers built an early lead, and held off the Carolina Panthers 24-16 last night. Aaron Jones ripped the Carolina defense for 145 yards rushing, and one touchdown. Aaron Rodgers ran for one score, and [assed for another, and became the first quarterback in NFL history to complete 40 or more touchdown passes in three different seasons.

In yesterday’s other game, the Buffalo Bills blasted the Denver Broncos 48-19, and clinched their first division title in 25 years.

The Lions visit the Titans for a 1:00 game this afternoon on 99.3 The Lift. Quarterback Matthew Stafford has been preparing to play, despite a rib cartilage injury and an aching thumb. He’ll be a game time decision.

The Giants host the Browns in the Sunday night game. The Bengals welcome the Steelers Monday night. Hear both broadcasts on 99.3 The Lift.
