Tech Hockey Sweeps Ferris – Sunday Sports Wrap

High School

Four Upper Peninsula teams remain alive in the state football tournament, following this weekend’s games…

  • In Division Seven, Menominee’s touchdown in overtime lifted them over Traverse City St. Francis 35-32 Saturday. The Maroons will host North Muskegon next Saturday.
  • In Division Eight, Iron Mountain recovered a fumble late in the game to hold off East Jordan 21-18 Saturday. The Mountaineers will entertain Beal City next Saturday.
  • In Eight-Player Division One, Pickford dispatched Ishpeming 44-6 Saturday. The Panthers will face Inland Lakes in the semifinals next Saturday. Mendon and Deckerville will play in the other semifinal.
  • In Eight-Player Division Two, Forest Park claimed a regional crown with a 34-12 victory over North Central Friday night. The Trojans will play Onekama in the semifinals. Morrice and Britton Deerfield will meet in the other semifinal.

College Soccer

The Michigan Tech soccer team played 19th-ranked Grand Valley State to a 0-0 tie Saturday. The Huskies close their regular season with a record of 6-10-1.

The Northern Michigan women’s team tied Saginaw Valley 1-1 Saturday. The Wildcats wrap up their season with a record of 11-3-4, and a GLIAC championship. 

NMU is seeded first in the upcoming tournament, and MTU is seeded eighth. The teams will face each other in the opening round Tuesday in Marquette.

College Hockey

The MTU hockey team completed a weekend sweep of Ferris State with a 3-1 victory Saturday. Derek Mullahy made 36 saves. All of the Huskies’ scoring came in a 55-second stretch of the first period, with goals from Logan Morrell, Stiven Sardarian and Jack Works. 

Lake Superior State won the second game of the Cappo Cup series Saturday, 5-1 over Northern Michigan. 

College Basketball

The Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan basketball teams completed competition at the JustAGame Crossover at Wisconsin Dells Saturday. 

  • Alyssa Wypych scored 21, as the Tech women defeated Thomas More 73-59. Marcus Tomashek netted 36, as the men’s team held off Maryville 88-84
  • The Northern women’s squad got past 53-48. Sarah Newcomer scored 14. All 10 players on the men’s team scored in a 77-63 win over Missouri-St. Louis. 

College Volleyball

The Michigan Tech volleyball team lost 3-0 to top-ranked Ferris State Saturday. Meg Raabe had 10 kills, Tess Hayes tallied 32 assists, and Brynn Erickson had eight digs.

The Northern volleyball shaded Davenport 3-2.

College Football

The Michigan Tech football team fell to Grand Valley State 20-0. The Lakers’ offense held the ball for nearly 41 minutes.

The Northern Michigan football team lost at Davenport University 52-31.

NHL

The Red Wings dropped 4-0 decision to the Rangers last night. Ville Husso stopped 20 shots, and took the loss in net.

The Wings visit the Penguins Wednesday. Coverage will start at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons host the Rockets this afternoon. Coverage will start at 2:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL

The Lions visit the Texans for the Sunday night game, with the broadcast at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.  

The Packers have this weekend off.

Youth Hockey

The Copper Country Junior Hockey Association’s November Gale 10U hockey tournament concludes today, with games at Dee Stadium and the HoCo.
