In high school hockey last night…
• Jeffers fell to Escanaba 2-1. Trevor Halonen gave the Jets a short-lived lead early in the second period, but Jayger LaMarch quickly tied the game, and Brayden Martineau netted the game-winner with six minutes remaining in the contest. Simon Rajala stopped 36 shots to take the tough loss in net.
College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team lost 3-2 in overtime to Michigan State in their second game at the Great Lakes Invitational Showcase last evening. Brian Halonen scored in the second period, and Nick Nardella’s tip-in off an Alec Broetzman shot in the third period forced overtime. David Gucciardi netted the game winner 77 seconds into the extra stanza. The Huskies outshot the Spartans 45-30.
GLHL
The Portage Lake Pioneers took an early 4-0 lead, but the Calumet Wolverines responded with seven straight goals to claim a 7-4 victory last night at the Colosseum. Those teams play again tonight at Dee Stadium. Faceoff is at 6:30.

The Detroit Red Wings will entertain the Washington Capitals tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit quarterback Jared Goff missed practice again yesterday because of his strained knee. He’s questionable for Sunday’s game, but running back D’Andre Swift remains on track to return, after missing time with a shoulder injury.

Curling
The Copper Country Curling Club will host an open house at the Drill House Rink Sunday between noon and 3:00. Learn about curling, throw a stone or two, ask any questions you have, and sign up for their regular or learn-to-curl leagues. If you plan to go on the ice, please bring clean tennis shoes to put on at the club.
