MLB
The Detroit Tigers opened their Grapefruit League schedule with a 3-1 loss to the New York Yankees yesterday. Chad Huffman singled home Leonys Martín to give Detroit an early lead in the first inning. All of New York’s runs came off bullpen candidate Austin Sodders. The Tigers face the Toronto Blue Jays this afternoon. Listen for select preseason games and all of Detroit’s regular-season games on 99.3 The Lift.

The Tigers have agreed to a one-year contract with pitcher Francisco Liriano. Liriano was a front-line starter for the Minnesota Twins from 2006 to 2012, but has struggled for several teams since then. He split time between the Blue Jays and the Astros last season. The deal is said to be worth four-million dollars, with an additional one-million in incentives. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Tigers designated pitcher Jairo Labourt for assignment.

The Milwaukee Brewers began their Cactus League campaign with a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs yesterday. Eric Sogard’s two-run triple in the fourth inning gave Milwaukee the win. The Brewers face the Los Angeles Angels today.

NFL
The Green Bay Packers will receive four additional picks in this year’s NFL draft, as compensation for the loss of free agents a year ago. One will come in the fourth round, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth.

The Detroit Lions will receive no compensatory picks for the second straight year.
