College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey season ended with a 6-1 loss to top-ranked Boston College in the opening round of the NCAA hockey tournament yesterday afternoon. The Huskies kept it close through much of the game, trailing just 2-1 after two periods. The Eagles broke the game open with a four-goal flurry within four minutes midway through the third period. Max Koskipirtti’s short-handed goal was the only score for the Huskies. Boston College will face Quinnipiac for the regional title tomorrow. The Bobcats edged Wisconsin 3-2 in overtime yesterday.

Michigan State edged Western Michigan 5-4 in overtime yesterday. The University of Michigan got past North Dakota 4-3. The Spartans and Wolverines will play for a regional title tomorrow.

The other two regional crowns will be decided today. Denver will face Cornell, and Boston University will play Minnesota.

The Portage Lake Pioneers will host the Top Shelf team from Chicago today at 5:00 at Dee Stadium.

The Calumet Wolverines entertain the Marquette Mutineers tonight at 6:00 at the Colosseum.

NHL

The Red Wings visit the Panthers this afternoon. Coverage will begin at 12:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons earned a rare 96-87 victory over the Wizards last evening, in a battle between the NBA’s two worst teams. Cade Cunningham scored 33 points. Jalen Duren added 20, and snared 17 rebounds.

The Pistons welcome the Grizzlies Monday.

MLB

The Tigers play the White Sox in Chicago again this afternoon. Kenta Maeda will face Michael Soroka. We’ll join the game in progress after Red Wings hockey on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers got past the Mets 3-1 in their season-opener yesterday. Heralded rookie Jackson Chourio debuted with a single, a walk and a stolen base. Christian Yelich homered. Freddy Peralta turned in six innings, and struck out eight. The only hit he allowed was a solo home run by Starling Marte. The game was marred by a bench-clearing brawl during the eighth inning, after Rhys Hoskins slid hard into second base to break up a double play.

Those teams play again this afternoon in New York. D.L. Hall will start against Luis Severino.

NFL

Lions tight end Brock Wright has signed an offer sheet from the 49ers. Wright is a restricted free agent, so Detroit has five days to match the offer, or let him go.
