MTU
The Michigan Tech hockey team dropped to 0-4 on the season with a 4-0 loss at Minnesota State Saturday night. Devin Kero took the loss, stopping 32 of 36 shots in net.

The MTU soccer team will play at Northwood today at noon.

The MTU volleyball team split its two matches in Wheeling, West Virginia, on Saturday, defeating Fairmont State 3-1, and then falling to defending NCAA Division II National Champion Wheeling Jesuit 3-0. Aubrey Ficek had 14 kills in the first match, and 12 in the second.

The women’s tennis team lost 5-4 at Wayne State Saturday morning.

The Huskies football team had the weekend off.

NMU
The Northern Michigan University hockey team lost 6-5 to Wisconsin Saturday in a game that was played at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

The NMU football team took an early 7-3 lead at Saginaw Valley State Saturday night, but then gave the Cardinals the next 31 points, and fell 41-13.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University volleyball team split two matches in Ashland Saturday, dropping a 3-0 decision to the University of Northwestern, and then defeating Northland College 3-1.

The Finlandia football team lost 36-20 at Trinity Bible College Saturday. Corey Dunn caught four passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns for the Lions.

The Finlandia men’s soccer team won its second straight game Saturday, shutting out Moody Bible Institute 4-0. Chris Johnson had two goals and an assist, and Jonathan Barnes had a goal and two assists for the Lions. Ricardo Almanza had 11 saves to earn the shutout in net.  Finlandia plays at Robert Morris University-Springfield today.

The Lions’ women’s soccer team lost to Cleary University 12-0 Saturday afternoon. Cleary outshot Finlandia 77-0, with 51 of those shots on net. Lions’ goalie Haley Makela set a new school record with 39 saves, breaking the old mark of 29 set last season by Courtnee Marquardt.

MLB
In the National League Divisional Series Saturday, the game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Washington Nationals was postponed. It will be made up this afternoon. The Chicago Cubs defeated the San Francisco Giants 5-2. The Cubs lead the series two games to none.

In the American League Divisional Series, the Cleveland Indians play at Boston this afternoon, and the Texas Rangers play at Toronto tonight. Toronto and Boston each lead their series two games to none.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons continue their preseason schedule at home against the Spurs on Monday. Hear selected Pistons regular-season games on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

NHL
Anthony Mantha’s goal with 9:03 remaining lifted the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-4 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in the preseason finale for both teams Saturday night. Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg had an assist in his first action of the fall. He’s recovering from a knee injury. Detroit’s regular season opens Thursday at Tampa Bay. MLB
The Detroit Tigers will bring back all the members of their 2016 coaching staff next season, except for one. Hitting coach Wally Joyner. It was Joyner’s decision not to return. He has not said what his plans for the future are.

The Detroit Lions host the Philadelphia Eagles today. Kickoff is at 1:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY. The Lions will be without defensive end Ezekiel Ansah, tight end Eric Ebron, and linebacker DeAndre Levy. Running back Dwayne Washington is listed as doubtful. Check the injury report here.
