Sixth-ranked Minnesota-Duluth scored with 15 seconds remaining in regulation time, and edged the 17th-ranked Michigan Tech hockey team 4-3 last night. Reid Sturos, Tyler Heinonen and Alex L’Esperance scored for the Huskies. Devin Kero made 27 saves.

The MTU soccer team and Ohio Dominican played to a 0-0 draw yesterday. .

The Huskies’ women’s tennis team fell 6-3 to Saginaw Valley State yesterday.

The Detroit Tigers needed a win and some help to keep their post-season chances alive yesterday. They got neither. Baltimore and Toronto both won, and locked up the two American League wild card playoff berths. The Tigers collected just five hits in a 1-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Justin Verlander gave up a run in the first inning, then pitched shutout ball through the seventh. He struck out eight, but Atlanta’s Julio Teheran struck out 12 to earn the win. Because the Tigers were eliminated from contention, today’s scheduled make-up game against the Cleveland Indians has been canceled.

The Milwaukee Brewers scored twice in the top of the 10th inning, and closed their season with a 6-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies yesterday.Andrew Susac’s first home run of the season was the winning blow. Domingo Santana also homered for Milwaukee.

Brian Hoyer threw for 302 yards and two touchdowns, as the Chicago Bears edged the Detroit Lions 17-14 yesterday. Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford threw two critical interceptions deep in Chicago territory. Detroit was held to just 66 yards rushing.

In last night’s game, the Pittsburgh Steelers thrashed the Kansas City Chiefs 43-14.

The Green Bay Packers had the weekend off.
