Calumet’s football season ended with a 51-15 loss to defending state champion Kingsley in the opening round of the Division Six playoffs Saturday. The Stags scored on every possession except their final one, which ended the game. They opened the first half with a 5-yard TD run from Gavin Lewis. After a Calumet fumble, Isaiah Cosgrove ran in from 24 yards out. Alex Figueroa intercepted a Ted Loukus pass on the following possession, and Cosgrove scored on a 15-yard scamper. The Copper Kings drove to the Kingsley three-yard line in the closing minute of the first half, but were unable to score. The Stags found the endzone on the second play of the second half, when Tyler Unterbrink caught a 38-yard pass. Calumet fumbled on their next possession, and Colton Goethals picked up the ball and ran 64 yards for a score. After the Copper Kings went three-and-out on the ensuing drive, their punt from deep in their own territory was blocked, and bounced back through the end zone for a Kingsley safety. Perry Smith added a two-yard scoring plunge late in the third quarter. Calumet finally got on the board early in the fourth quarter. A 31-yard run by Jax Carlson set up a three-yard Ted Loukus TD run. Kingsley responded with a 52-yard scoring scamper by back-up quarterback Brody Ferriss. Calumet’s reserves were able to tack on a final score on a four-yard run by Keith Koivisto.

The Copper Kings end their season at 6-4. The Stags advance to the district final, and will host Boyne City next weekend. The Ramblers eliminated Negaunee 23-16 Friday night.
