Tech Hockey Blanked by MSU – Tuesday Sports Wrap

MTU

The Michigan Tech hockey team suffered a 2-0 shutout at the hands of sixth-ranked Minnesota State last night. The Huskies were outshot 37-19. Blake Pietila took the tough loss in net.

The Huskies are scheduled to play at Bemidji State this weekend.

Finlandia

The Finlandia University softball team has added another recruit. ShyAnn Vernam is a pitcher from San Tan Valley, Arizona.

High School

The 12-day extension of the state’s COVID-19 pause also includes a ban on most face-to-face high school activities, including sports. That would appear to mean that the high school volleyball and football tournaments will not be able to resume before the Christmas break. After the extension was announced yesterday, the Michigan High School Athletic Association said its Representative Council will meet tomorrow to discuss the fates of the fall sport tournaments, and the abbreviated winter sports schedules.

MLB

Anthony Castro is no longer a Detroit Tiger. The pitching prospect made his major league debut last summer, but was waived yesterday to make room on the 40-man roster for a potential Rule Five draft pick. The Tigers had hoped Castro would clear waivers, and could be assigned to Toledo, but he was claimed by the Blue Jays.

NFL

In last night’s NFL games…
• Washington scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, and handed Pittsburgh its first loss of the season, 23-17.
• Josh Allen threw four touchdown passes, as Buffalo outscored San Francisco 34-24.

Tonight, the Ravens and Cowboys will complete week 13 by making up the game that was originally scheduled for last Thursday. Kickoff is at 8:05 on 99.3 The Lift.
