MTU Volleyball Hosts NMU
The Michigan Tech volleyball team will host Northern Michigan tonight. The Huskies still have a chance to make the playoffs, and coach Matt Jennings says tonight’s contest could be a battle… JENNINGS. First serve is at 7:00 at the SDC.

Michigan Tech hockey goaltender Jamie Phillips has been named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week. Phillips stopped 67 of 68 shots in the Huskies’ two wins at Ferris State last weekend.

The Huskies have entered the national rankings at number-17 in the USCHO.com poll. Tech is one of only five unbeaten teams in college hockey. Their opponent this weekend… the University of Michigan… is ranked 15th.

The first Michigan Tech hockey Blue Line Lunch of the season will be Friday at noon in the ‘old’ Blue Line Room. Coach Pearson and University of Michigan coach Red Berenson will be the featured speakers, and you’ll get to see the Stanley Cup. Lunch costs $10.00. Space is limited. Reserve your spot by close of business tomorrow by emailing blueline@mtu.edu.

Stanley Cup in Houghton 2014-10-27

The Stanley Cup will be in Houghton all day Friday, as part of a display of some of hockey’s greatest trophies. The MacNaughton Cup and the Gibson Cup will be included, along with the Hart Trophy and the Conn Smythe Trophy. To see them, you must purchase a ticket to one of Tech’s games against the University of Michigan this weekend.

NHL – Red Wings Prepare for Capitals
The Detroit Red Wings skate at Washington tomorrow night. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NBA – Pistons Ready for Season-Opener
The Detroit Pistons open their NBA season tomorrow night at Denver.

In last night’s game NFL game, Washington stunned Dallas 20-17 in overtime. If you played the Wolf Pro Football Challenge, you need to have picked 12 or more games correctly to be eligible to be our weekly winner.

It does not look as if the hamstring injury that Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered during Sunday night’s game will cost him any playing time… MCCARTHY A. That’s Green Bay Coach Mike McCarthy… who says the upcoming week off will help the whole team heal up… MCCARTHY B.

Meanwhile, Lions’ defensive end Nick Fairley will miss a month because of the strained ACL and PCL he suffered during Sunday’s game.

Jeff Robinson Baseball CardFormer Tigers’ Pitcher Dies
Former Detroit Tigers’ pitcher Jeff Robinson has died. Robinson made his major-league debut with Detroit in 1987. He won 13 games as a starter in 1988. He was traded to the Orioles for catcher Mickey Tettleton before the 1991 season. No cause of death has been announced, except that he had been ill for a couple of months. Jeff Robinson was 52.

The high school football playoffs begin this weekend. We’ll broadcast Calumet’s game at Harrison on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. Hear Lake Linden-Hubbell’s home game against Bark River-Harris on 97.7 The Wolf. Pregame for each broadcast will begin Saturday afternoon at 12:40.
