Tech Football Blanked at Homecoming – Sunday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school football Saturday…
• Lake Linden-Hubbell couldn’t overcome a slow start, and fell to Forest Park 36-28. Danny Marcotte completed 15 of 25 passes for 192 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Marcotte also rushed 17 times for 114 yards and three touchdowns. Matthew Jokela caught seven passes for 100 yards.

In high school volleyball Saturday…
• Calumet competed at the D3/D4 Showcase Tournament in the Detroit area. The eighth-ranked Copper Kings defeated Oakland Christian 2-0 (25-12, 25-19), and Madison 2-0 (25-18, 25-22). They then split with ninth-ranked Cass City 1-1 (21-25, 25-21), and fell to sixth-ranked Traverse City Saint Francis 0-2 (16-25, 30-32).
• At the Wrightstown Invitational in Wisconsin, Houghton went 2-4 in pool play. In bracket play, they defeated Sheboygan South 2-0 (25-13, 25-7) and Two Rivers 2-1 (22-25, 25-21, 15-9).

The Houghton soccer team played to a 0-0 tie at Escanaba Saturday.

College Football

The Michigan Tech football team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling 28-0 to 18th-ranked Davenport University at Homecoming. The Panthers scored once in each quarter, and held the Huskies to just just 117 yards of total offense.

The Northern Michigan football team lost 78-3 at top-ranked Ferris State Saturday. The Bulldogs rolled up 705 yards of total offense, while holding the Wildcats to just 98, including 14 yards rushing.

College Soccer

The Michigan Tech soccer team will host Grand Valley today at noon.

The Northern women’s team entertains Davenport today.

The Northern Michigan men’s soccer team plays at Saint Cloud State this afternoon.

College Volleyball

The Michigan Tech volleyball team fell 3-0 (18-25, 15-25, 15-25) to 21st-ranked Ferris State Saturday.

The Northern volleyball team swept Lake Superior State 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 29-27) Saturday.

NHL

The Red Wings blew out the Capitals 5-2 in an exhibition Saturday night. Dylan Larkin scored twice, and Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat each had two assists. Listen for regular-season Wings games on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Tigers blanked the Guardians 8-0, as Miguel Cabrera Celebration Weekend continued Saturday. Cabrera doubled, scored, and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Andy Ibáñez had three hits, drove in two, and scored twice.

The Tigers wrap up their season at home against the Guardians today. Eduardo Rodtiguez will start against Lucas Giolito. Coverage will start at 2:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers lost to the Cubs 10-6 Saturday. Chicago scored six runs off Eric Lauer in the top of the first inning, with help from three home runs, including a Yan Gomes grand slam. Milwaukee scored three in the bottom of the first, and tied the game with three in the bottom of the second, but couldn’t plate any more runs. Blake Perkins and Carlos Santana homered for the Crew.

The Brewers host the Cubs again this afternoon to complete their regular season. Adrian Houser will pitch against Justin Steele.

Milwaukee will open the playoffs Tuesday against a wild Card team that will be determined today.

NFL

Both the Lions and Packers are off today, having competed in Thursday night’s contest.

In the Sunday night game, the Jets entertain the Chiefs, with coverage on 99.3 The Lift.

In the Monday night contest, the Giants host the Seahawks, with coverage on 99.3 The Lift.
