High School
In boys basketball last night…
– Houghton edged Negaunee 44-43.
– Calumet dropped a 57-56 heartbreaker at Ewen-Trout Creek. The Copper Kings led by four with six seconds remaining, but Jake Witt drained a three-pointer, and Eli Nordine made two free throws to keep the Panthers unbeaten.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City also remained unbeaten, with a 71-52 win over Chassell. Jaden Janke scored 20 for the Blue Bolts, and Devin Schmitz added 18.

In girls hoops last evening…
– Calumet fell to Ishpeming 50-35.
– Jeffers smothered Republic-Michigamme 62-17.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s basketball team plays at Trinity International University in Illinois tonight.

MTU
The Michigan Tech hockey team lost 4-1 to Bowling Green in the title game of the Great Lakes Invitational last night. The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the first period. Jake Lucchini’s goal early in the second period tied the contest. Bowling Green scored the game-winner midway through the second stanza, and sealed the win with two third-period scores. Robbie Beydoun stopped 21 shots in net for the Huskies, and took the loss. Mitch Reinke was named to the all-tournament team. In the consolation match, the University of Michigan outscored Michigan State 6-4.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings host the Ottawa Senators tonight. Coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons return to action tonight, when they play at Miami. Avery Bradley is expected to be back in the Pistons’ lineup, after missing seven games with a groin injury.

NFL
Ted Thompson’s new role with the Green Bay Packers will be senior advisor to football operations. The team is beginning its search for someone to take over his old positions as general manager and director of football operations.

The Detroit Lions have begun their search for a new head coach by talking with two in-house candidates. Both defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter have been interviewed. They’re scheduled to talk with Houston Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel today.
