Team CC Takes Title, Lions and Pack Win – Monday Sports Wrap

The Team Copper Country U18 hockey squad took the title at the Midget AA Split Season State Playoffs by defeating Elite Brigade 4-1 yesterday. Riley McKay, Cory Tourtilott, Danny Hill, and Reid Pietila scored for Team CC. Dawson Kero got the win in goal. Team CC will take a break for the high school season, then re-form in March to play for the State Midget AA title and a berth in the national playoffs.

In high school volleyball tonight, Dollar Bay plays at Ewen-Trout Creek.

MTU
The MTU soccer team lost 3-1 at Ferris State yesterday.

Finlandia
Finlandia Lions New LogoThe Finlandia men’s soccer team lost 3-0 at Fontbonne University yesterday. The Finlandia women’s soccer team fell to Alverno College 3-2 yesterday. The Lady Lions play at Mount Mary University this afternoon.

The Finlandia University volleyball team entertains Gogebic Community College this evening.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings skate at Edmonton Wednesday night. Faceoff is at 9:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons lost to the San Antonio Spurs 96-92 in NBA exhibition play yesterday. The Pistons host the Hornets in a preseason game Wednesday night.

MLB
In the National League Championship Series, the New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs 4-1 last night. The Mets lead the best-of-seven series two games to none. Game three will be played tomorrow night in Chicago.

The American League Championship Series resumes tonight in Toronto. The Kansas City Royals lead the Blue Jays two games to none,

Matt Prater’s 27-yard field goal in overtime lifted the Detroit Lions to a 37-34 victory over the Chicago Bears yesterday. Detroit came from behind to take the lead when Matthew Stafford hit Calvin Johnson with a touchdown pass with 21 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The Bears kicked a field goal as regulation time expired to force the extra period.

The Green Bay Packers remained unbeaten with a 27-20 win over the San Diego Chargers. San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers completed 43 of 65 passes for 503 yards.

In last night’s game, the Patriots defeated the Colts 34-27.
