Team CC Sweeps Thunder Bay – Monday Sports Wrap

High School
The Team Copper Country hockey squad swept two games against the Thunder Bay Kings yesterday by identical 4-0 scores. Teddy Randell scored twice in the first match. Daunte Fortner had a goal and an assist in the first game, and another goal in the second. Alex Nordstrom had a goal and an assist in the second contest.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University men’s soccer team fell 2-1 to Martin Luther College yesterday. Patrick Miles scored the Lions’ only goal off a pass from Glodie Kangia. The women’s team lost to Martin Luther 5-0.

MTU
The MTU soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Minnesota-Duluth yesterday. Brooke Schauer landed the Huskies’ only goal.

MLB
Anibal Sanchez didn’t last through the fifth inning, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 8-2 yesterday. Sanchez gave up seven runs on a dozen hits. Ian Kinsler homered.

The Tigers begin a series at Cleveland tonight. Myles Jaye will make his first major league start for Detroit. Carlos Carrasco will counter for the Indians. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers completed a sweep of their weekend series with the Cubs with a 3-1 victory yesterday. Travis Shaw hit a two-run homer, and Zach Davies gave up a run over seven innings.

The Brewers host the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight. Brandon Woodruff will start against Steven Brault.

The Cardinals also won, so Milwaukee and Saint Louis now trail Chicago by two games in the National League Central Division race.

NFL
The Detroit Lions overcame a sloppy start, scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter, and pulled away from the Arizona Cardinals 35-23 yesterday. Matthew Stafford tossed four touchdown passes. Miles Killebrew returned an interception 35 yards for a score.

The Green Bay Packers opened their season with a 17-9 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Aaron Rodgers threw for a touchdown, and Ty Montgomery ran for a score.
