• Hancock swept Ontonagon, 11-1 and 15-10.
• L’Anse and Lake Linden-Hubbell split their doubleheader, with the Purple Hornets taking the first game 6-1, and the Lakes claiming the second contest 8-7.
In softball yesterday…
• Houghton v Negaunee – no report.
• Hancock fell to Westwood, 9-4 and 8-6.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell swept Gogebic 6-3 and 10-3. Olivia Shank got the win in the first game. Emily Jokela had a triple and an inside-the-park home run. Jokela added four more hits in the nightcap, including a double and a triple. Kara Kinnunen got the win.
• L’Anse v Ironwood – no report.

On the opening night of play in the Copper Country Slow Pitch Softball League…
• A and S Industrial/Loukus Tech defeated Downtowner Two 22-2, then cruised past Auto Pro/Thermoanalytics 33-7.
• Koppers fell to Pat’s Foods/Bucko’s 14-8, then defeated Sayen’s Auto/Coca Cola 22-11.

One of the NHL conference semifinals concluded last night…
• In the Eastern Conference, the Lightning blanked the Panthers 2-0. Tampa Bay takes the series 4-0.
• In the Western Conference, the Avalanche buried the Blues 6-3. Colorado leads that set 3-1.
Tonight…
• In the Eastern Conference, the Hurricanes visit the Rangers. Carolina leads that series 2-1.
• In the Western Conference, the Oilers host the Flames. Edmonton is up 2-1 in that set.

In the NBA Conference finals…
• In the Eastern Conference last night, the Celtics turned down the Heat 102-82. That series is tied 2-2.
• In the Western Conference, the Mavericks host the Warriors tonight. Golden State leads that series 3-0.
MLB
Gio Urshela’s infield single off Andrew Chafin drove home the winning run, as the Minnesota Twins shaded the Detroit Tigers 5-4 last night. The Twins got off to a fast start, when Max Kepler hit a first-inning grand slam off Elvin Rodriguez. The Tigers clawed their way back, with single runs in the second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Jonathan Schoop homered.
The Tigers continue that series at Minnesota tonight. With Detroit running low on starters, Rony Garcia will pitch against Sonny Gray. Coverage will begin at 7:20 on 99.3 The Lift.
José Azócar singled home the game-winner in the bottom of the 10th, as the San Diego Padres edged the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 last night. Miguel Sánchez took the loss.
The Crew hosts the Padres again tonight. Corbin Burnes will start against Blake Snell.
Milwaukee has placed starter Freddy Peralta on the injured list with a shoulder strain. Team officials say he could miss considerable time. Josh Hader has been placed on the family medical emergency list. Sánchez and Trevor Kelley were called up to fill in.
