NHL

The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-3 last night. Adam Erne scored two goals for Detroit in the first period. Tyler Bertuzzi gave the Wings a 3-2 lead early in the second, but the Blue Jackets scored the games final three goals to take the win. Jonathan Bernier made 34 saves.

The Wings visit the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday. Because of NFL football, coverage will begin at 6:40 on KBear 102.3.

It looks as if Detroit will need to complete the season without Danny DeKeyser. He’s been out most of the year with back problems, and underwent back surgery yesterday.

Goaltender Jimmy Howard could be back with Detroit soon. He began a conditioning assignment with Grand Rapids last night by stopping 30 of 32 shots in the Griffins’ win over the San Diego Gulls. Howard was hurt in a game November 27th.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons host the Toronto Raptors tonight. Pregame coverage starts at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL

The Detroit Lions will bring general manager Bob Quinn and head coach Matt Patricia back next year. It will be the fourth year for Quinn, and the third for Patricia. Detroit has also officially ended quarterback Matthew Stafford’s season by putting him on injured reserve. Stafford is suffering from broken bones in his back.

The Lions placed one player on the Pro Bowl team – cornerback Darius Slay. The Packers earned two selections – offensive tackle David Bakhtiari will be a starter, and quarterback Aaron Rodgers also made the roster. Seattle’s Russell Wilson was named the NFC starting quarterback. Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson earned the starting AFC position.

MLB

After yet another Hall of Fame snub, the Detroit Tigers will retire the number of second baseman Lou Whitaker next summer. His number one will become the 10th jersey taken out of service by the team.

Our high school hockey coverage continues tomorrow night, when Houghton skates at Negaunee. The broadcast will begin at 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
