MLB – Tigers Roar from Behind
The Detroit Tigers scored four runs in the eighth inning, and pushed past the Kansas City Royals 7-4 last night. Ian Kinsler’s two-run double started the comeback. J.D. Martinez singled in a run, and Tyler Collins drive one in on a fielder’s choice. The late surge made a winner of Naftali Feliz, who retired both batters he faced in the bottom of the seventh. Bruce Rondon hit a batter and walked a batter in the ninth, but earned his second save. Starter Daniel Norris gave up four runs on six hits before leaving in the seventh inning.
The Tigers have today off, and open a set at Houston tomorrow night. Alfredo Simon will start against Dallas Keuchel. Hear the first pitch at 8:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
Miguel Cabrera ran the bases yesterday, and says he’s ready. He plans to be in the lineup tomorrow night, after missing nearly six weeks with a strained calf muscle.
Miguel Montero’s home run in the 10th inning lifted the Chicago Cubs to a 3-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers last night. The loss spoiled a good start by Matt Garza, who gave up two runs on just three hits over seven innings. Ryan Braun hit his 250th career home run. He’s one shy of the team record of 251, held by Robin Yount.
The Brewers wrap up that series in Chicago this afternoon. Tyler Cravy will pitch against Jon Lester.
State Farm Forces Twilight League Game Three
Jason Koski faced the minimum through the first four innings while his teammates scored six times as Dean Kangas State Farm forced a third and deciding game in the Twilight League championship, 6-0, Wednesday night.
Wolverine-Orbit, 4-3 winners Tuesday night, started on the right foot as Joe Richards put himself in scoring position in the first. But a great center field throw from Brady Turner erased the threat on a fly out-tag out double play. Koski scattered only four more hits for the remainder of the game.
Jay Daavettila figured into the first two runs for DKSF, in the second a bases-loaded walk to Turner brought him home and he connected with a solo home run in the third.
The remaining four runs were scored in the fourth. Owen Kariniemi and Scott Piettila started the inning off with walks and were both brought in on bases-loaded situations. A two-run double from Kyle Storm wrapped up the contest for the Dean Kangas squad.
Koski and Wolverine starter Luke Paul both pitched the distance for their clubs.
