Tigers Can’t Support Price
David Price gave up one unearned run on one hit over eight innings yesterday… and he and the Tigers lost to the Rays 1-0. After allowing an rbi triple to Brandon Guyer in the first inning, Price retired the final 23 batters he faced. Unfortunately, Detroit batters could only muster four hits. Twice they moved a runner to third base, but couldn’t score.
The Tigers open a series at Minnesota tonight. Robbie Ray will start against Tommy Milone. Hear the first pitch at 8:10 on FM 99.3 and AM 1400, WCCY.
The Royals had the day off, so Detroit now trails Kansas City by a game-and-a-half in the American League Central Division.
Justin Verlander remains on track to start the second game of tomorrow’s day-night doubleheader at Minnesota. Verlander missed his last turn in the rotation because of shoulder inflammation, but says he’s feeling better. Buck Farmer will come up from Toledo to pitch the opener.
Sexual assault charges against Tigers’ minor-league pitcher Evan Reed have been dismissed. Reed was accused of raping a woman he met at a Detroit casino this spring. The judge noted a lack of evidence and several inconsistencies in the woman’s story when he dismissed the charges.
Brewers Prep for Pirates
The Brewers had yesterday off, and host the Pirates tonight. Yovani Gallardo will start against Jeff Locke.
The Cardinals were also off yesterday, so Milwaukee’s lead in the National League Central Division remains at a game-and-a-half.
