The Detroit Tigers’ offense came to life yesterday, as they outslugged the Kansas City Royals 12-8. Detroit blasted the game open with seven runs in the third inning, highlighted by a three-run Jeimer Candelario triple, and a two-run Gordon Beckham home run. The outburst overcame a terrible start by Jordan Zimmermann, who gave up seven runs on eight hits over four innings.
The Tigers begin a series against the Indians in Cleveland tonight. Daniel Norris will pitch against Adam Plutko. Pregame coverage will start at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The San Francisco Giants scored six runs in the seventh inning, and pounded the Milwaukee Brewers 8-3 yesterday. The meltdown came off Corbin Burnes and Matt Albers. Christian Yelich homered for the Crew.
The Brewers host the Atlanta Braves tonight. Adrian Houser will start against Max Fried.
Twilight League
Superior National Bank-Stanton won the annual Leo Durocher Baseball Tournament, defeating Dean Kangas-State Farm 6-0 in the championship game yesterday. The Wildcats played the entire tournament without giving up a run, defeating Garnet Garage 3-0 on Friday, and blanking the Tri-City North Stars 7-0 on Saturday. State Farm reached the finals with an 8-7 victory over REL INC./Mohawk Technology on Friday, and a 5-2 victory over the Channing Railroaders Saturday. In other pool play contests, the Railroaders defeated REL 13-8, and the North Stars downed Garnet Garage 18-12. Stanton’s Erik Nettell and Justin Kirby shared Most Valuable Player honors.

At the Miners Revenge mountain bike event in Greenland…
– On Saturday, Jeremie van Ryswyk from Crystal, Michigan, won the 24-mile men’s expert competition, finishing more than a minute better than Spencer Mendel from Alpena. Hanna Derby from Marquette claimed an easy victory in the women’s 18-mile expert competition. Fran Broeders from Negaunee won the 12-mile men’s sport event, with Houghton’s Chris Iskra in second place. Melanie Oliver from Sheboygan, Wisconsin, won the women’s sport event.
