Justin Upton’s two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth powered the Detroit Tigers to a wild, come-from-behind 12-11 victory Saturday. Detroit bolted out to a quick early lead, scoring five times in the first inning. The Twins countered with five in the third. By the top of the seventh, they were up 11-6. Detroit’s comeback began in the bottom of the seventh, when Upton’s sacrifice fly plated Mikie Mahtook. They added three in the eighth, with help from a José Iglesias home run. Mahtook’s leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth set up Upton’s game-winning shot four pitches later. Jordan Zimmermann was chased in the fourth inning. He was charged with seven runs on eight hits. Shane Greene earned the win in relief.
The Tigers conclude that home set against the Minnesota Twins this afternoon. Matthew Boyd will start against Ervin Santana.
Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera left yesterday’s game with back tightness. Manager Brad Ausmus said that Cabrera will probably be rested today.
The Milwaukee Brewers snapped their six-game losing streak with a 6-5, 10-inning victory over the Cincinnati Reds Saturday. Eric Sogard scored the winning run on a wild pitch. Travis Shaw, Ryan Braun and Eric Thames homered for Milwaukee. Cory Knebel pitched the final two innings, and earned the win. The Cardinals won, while the Cubs and Pirates lost. That boosts St. Louis into a virtual tie with Chicago at the top of the National League Central Division. Milwaukee is two games back, and Pittsburgh is three games out.
The Brewers host the Reds again this afternoon. Matt Garza will pitch against Sal Romano.
Milwaukee picked up second baseman Neil Walker in a trade with the New York Mets Saturday. The Mets will cover part of Walker’s remaining salary for the rest of the season, in exchange for a player to be named later. Walker will be a free agent at the end of the season. The move officially ends any lingering interest the Brewers may have had in Detroit Tigers’ second baseman Ian Kinsler.
Twilight League
Superior National Bank Stanton scored four runs in the top of the eighth, and advanced to the Copper Country Twilight Baseball League championship series with an 8-5 victory over REL-Mohawk Technologies Saturday. The teams were tied 4-4 at the end of the regulation seven innings. REL-Mohawk got one run back in the bottom of the ninth, but Stanton held on for the win.
Stanton will face Dean Kangas State Farm in the championship series beginning Tuesday at the Stanton field. Pregame coverage will begin around 6:15 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

Former Detroit Red Wings coach Bryan Murray as died, after a battle with cancer. He was 74. Murray served as coach and general manager of the Wings from 1990 to 1993, and continued as GM for an additional year.
The Red Wings and the NHL have strongly denounced a group of white separatists that have stolen the team’s famous “Winged Wheel” logo. Signs featuring the logo have been spotted in the recent protests in Charlottesville, Virginia. In some cases, Nazi symbols have been added. An official team statement said that they “vehemently disagree with and are not associated in any way with the event.” The league’s statement said the NHL was “obviously outraged.”

The Detroit Lions open their exhibition season against the Colts in Indianapolis this afternoon. Kickoff is at 1:30 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Green Bay Packers have re-signed long snapper Jeff Goode.
