In high school softball yesterday…
• Houghton took two from Calumet, 12-3 and 14-12.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell swept Baraga 19-4 and 12-8. Olivia Shank was the winning pitcher in the first game, and she and Emily Jokela each had a single and a double. Jokela earned the win in the nightcap, and Marissa Sullivan and Sydney Suhonen each had two singles and a double. Kylie Michaelson a single and three doubles for the Vikings.
• L’Anse dropped both of its games to Ishpeming, 19-1 and 19-5.
In softball this afternoon…
• Calumet plays at Gwinn.
In track and field…
At the Jack Kraemer Invitational in Ironwood yesterday, the Dollar Bay-Tamarack City girls finished third, and the boys second.
• On the boys side, Nik Thomas won the 800-meter, 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs, and set a school record in the 1600. The boys 4×800 relay team took first place. A.J. Datto placed second in the 110-meter hurdles.
• On the girls side, Nora Keranen of the Blue Bolts won the high jump, and the 4×800 relay team claimed first place. Maggie Gaunt and Taryn Maki placed second and third in the 3200-meter run.

College Baseball
The Finlandia University baseball team lost two at Wisconsin-Eau Claire yesterday, 26-2 and 16-4. Brandon Gaskin and Jacob Mead each had three hits for the Lions. Those teams will play two more in Eau Claire today.

The NHL playoffs opened last night.

• In the Eastern Conference, the Milwaukee Bucks visit the Boston Celtics. Milwaukee leads that set 1-0.
• In the Western Conference, the Memphis Grizzlies host the Golden State Warriors. Golden State is up 1-0 in that series.
MLB
The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and begin a home set against the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight. Michael Pineda will start against Bryce Wilson. Coverage will begin at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Tigers reduced their roster from 28 to 26 players as required yesterday. They placed pitcher Tyler Alexander on the 15-day disabled list with an elbow sprain, and designated catcher Dustin Garneau for assignment. Garneau could be claimed off waivers by another team. If he isn’t, he could accept an assignment to Toledo, or become a free agent.
The Milwaukee Brewers also had yesterday off, and host the Cincinnati Reds tonight. Brandon Woodruff will pitch against Tyler Mahle.
The Brewers have activated infielder Luis Urías off the injured list, and designated former Tigers hurler José Ureña for assignment.
