Robinson Cano’s home run in the top of the 10th inning lifted the American League to a 2-1 victory in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game last night. Cano’s pinch-hit shot off Cubs closer Wade Davis earned him the Most Valuable Player Award. Detroit outfielder Justin Upton helped maintain the lead with a diving catch in the bottom of the 10th, as former Tiger Andrew Miller closed out the win.

In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball play last night, Superior National Bank earned two close victories…
– In the first game, SNB came from five runs down in the final inning to edge Calumet Golf Club/Loading Zone II 8-7. Kim Aho stole home to tie the game, and Alexa Johnson then stole home with the winning run. Larissa Anderson and Adena Anderson combined for 10 strikeouts for SNB. Elli Djerf struck out 11, but took the loss for Calumet Golf Club/Loading Zone II.
– In the second game, SNB couldn’t hold an early lead, but came back to defeat Campioni’s True Value 7-6. SNB scored three in the sixth inning to tie the game. Johnson’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh drove in Sally Heinonen with the winning run. Johnson had four hits in the game. Adena Anderson and Rosalie Anderson combined for the win with 14 strikeouts. Emily Erkkila and Vera Peterson pitched for Campioni’s.

– At the Boneyard, Auto Pro Glass and Tire faces Superior National Bank at 5:45. Northern Michigan Land Brokers takes on Mattila Rock and Dock at 7:15.
– At the Chassell field, Frank A. Douglass Agency meets Campioni’s True Value at 7:15.
Twilight League
In Copper Country Twilight League baseball last night…
– Superior National Bank-Stanton held off Dean Kangas-State Farm 3-2. Eli Louma threw six shutout innings before State Farm made it close with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
– REL-Mohawk Technologies edged Wolverine-Orbit 3-2 to earn their first win of the season.
NBA
Anthony Tolliver is returning to the Detroit Pistons. Tolliver has signed a one-year deal worth 3.3-million dollars. He played for Detroit from 2014 through 2016, then spent last season with the Kings.
Former Piston Kentavious Caldwell-Pope may have landed with the Los Angeles Lakers. Media reports indicate it will be a one-year, 18-million dollar deal.
