The Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be played tonight. Pitcher Joe Jiménez will be the Tigers’ only player on the American League squad. The Brewers will be represented by Lorenzo Cain, Christian Yelich, Josh Hader, Jeremy Jeffress, and Final Vote winner Jesús Aguilar.

Last night, Aguilar was eliminated in the opening round of the Home Run Derby. Bryce Harper eventually won the title, edging out Kyle Schwarber 19-18 in the final round.

Following the All-Star break, the Tigers open a home set against the Boston Red Sox on Friday. The Brewers will resume play at home against the Dodgers on Friday.

Fast Pitch Softball
The Copper Country Women’s Fast Pitch Softball League regular season wrapped up last night with a pair of forfeits. Northern Michigan Land Brokers claimed a victory over Mattila Rock and Dock, and Auto Pro Glass and Tire got a win over Loading Zone II/Calumet Golf Club.

NMLB’s victory left the league with three teams tied at the top, with records of 8-4. Using the league tie-breaking process involving head-to-head competition, Superior National Bank takes first place, with Auto Pro Glass and Tire second, and NMLB third. Loading Zone II/Calumet Golf Club finishes fourth, and Mattila Rock and Dock fifth.

The Fast Pitch Softball League tournament opens tomorrow night at the Bone Yard. Top seed Superior National Bank will meet Mattila Rock and Dock at 5:45. The second game will pit Auto Pro Glass and Tire against Northern Michigan Land Brokers. The winners will play for the title Thursday at 7:00. Our doubleheader coverage of the semifinals will begin around 5:30 tomorrow on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. Our broadcast of the championship game on Thursday will start around 6:45.

Canal Run
Online registration for Saturday’s Canal Run continues through Thursday. This year’s events include a half marathon, a 10-mile run and walk, a five-mile run and walk, a two-mile fun run, and a kids dash after the other races have concluded. Late registration will take place Friday between 3:00 and 8:00 at the Finnish-American Heritage Center. To register online, and see the full schedule, click here.

Because of flood damage along the traditional course, races have been re-routed to end at McLain State Park this year. Participants and supporters are asked to park at First Apostolic Lutheran Church, two miles west of Calumet on M-203. Shuttle buses will run continuously between there, the starting points, and the finish line.
