MLB – Tigers Fall Again
Alfredo Simon struggled again, and the Detroit Tigers lost to the Minnesota Twins 9-5 yesterday. The Twins scored three runs in the second inning, then chased Simon from the game while scoring four runs in the third. The Tigers got three runs back in the fourth inning on a home run by Victor Martinez, and a two-run single by James McCann, but couldn’t climb out of the hole.

The Tigers wrap up that series at Minnesota this afternoon. Shane Greene will return from Toledo to pitch against Phil Hughes. Hear the first pitch at 2:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

To make room for Greene on the roster, the Tigers sent pitcher Buck Farmer back to Toledo.  The Tigers have also signed reliever Neftali Feliz. Feliz was an All-Star in 2010, when he saved 40 games, but has since been hindered by injuries. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2012. He was released by the Texas Rangers on Thursday.

Taylor Jungmann threw his first major-league complete game, as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-1 yesterday. Jungmann gave up just three hits. He struck out seven. Carlos Gomez drove in five runs, and Gerardo Parra homered for Milwaukee.

The Brewers conclude that west coast series against the Dodgers this afternoon. Kyle Lohse will start against Brett Anderson.

Wily Peralta pitched to 10 batters in his first rehab start for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers yesterday. Peralta has missed seven weeks because of a strained oblique muscle. He hopes to rejoin the rotation late this month.

Copper Country Twilight League Baseball
Results of the Saturday’s games at the 15th Annual Leo Durocher Memorial Baseball Tournament at the Stanton field were not posted. The two division, three team round robin competition continues today. Dean Kangas State Farm will play the Channing Railroaders at 11:00. The Stanton Wildcats will take on the Tri-City North Stars at 1:30. The winners of the two divisions will meet in the championship game at 4:15.

Run the Keweenaw This Weekend
Run the Keweenaw LogoDavid Smith and Clair Luby hold the lead after the first day of the Run the Keweenaw Trail Running Festival yesterday. Smith won the Mount Baldy Hill Climb with a margin of more than two minute over Nicholas Wilson, then outpaced Matt Santo by more than five minutes in the 14K. Luby was the top woman in each event, finishing sixth overall in the Hill Climb, and fourth overall in the 14K. The event wraps up with the 25K Carl Olson Memorial Adventure Run today. Click on the links for full results from the Hill Climb and the 14K. Lewis Vendlinski won the Junior Trail Run. Willow Lagrou finished second overall, to take the top girls honor. Nuttall Takes Chassell 5K
Strawberry FestivalAndrew Nuttall from Stephenson took first place in the Chassell Lions Club 5K Saturday morning at the Copper Country Strawberry Festival. He finished 98 seconds ahead of Benjamin Tuomi of Chassell. Lauren Swain from Lowell was the top women’s finisher. Tucker Tapani from Chassell won the 2K, and Grace Zenk from Glenwood, Minnesota was the top women’s finisher. Full results are here.
