Skubal Roughed Up as Tigers Drop 7th Straight – Wednesday Sports Wrap

MLB

The Detroit Tigers’ losing streak reached seven games last night, with a 10-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Tarik Skubal’s major league debut was a short one, He gave up four runs on seven hits over two innings. Daniel Norris allowed two runs over four innings, and Gregory Soto and John Schreiber gave up four runs in the eighth. Jonathan Schoop homered for Detroit.

The Tigers continue that set against the White Sox in Chicago tonight. Both starting pitchers will be making their major league debuts – Casey Mize for the Tigers, and Dane Dunning for the Sox. Coverage begins at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Minnesota Twins scratched out a run against David Phelps in the bottom of the 12th inning to edge the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 last night. The big story, though was the pitching of Minnesota starter Kenta Maeda, who took a no-hitter into the ninth. Eric Sogard broke it up with a leadoff single. Taylor Rogers replaced Maeda on the mound, and the Brewers scored three times to force extra innings.

The Brewers play at Minnesota again tonight. Brett Anderson will pitch against Rich Hill.

The Cincinnati Reds still aren’t back on the field, as the team processes the latest round of COVID-19 tests. A positive result over the weekend wiped out games against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The opening game of their series against the Kansas City Royals was postponed last night. If the Reds tests come back clean, it could be made up as part of a doubleheader today.
