Skubal Dominant in Tigers Win – Sunday Sports Wrap

Tarik Skubal turned in a dominating performance Saturday, as the Tigers shaded the Red Sox 2-1. Skubal lasted a career-best eight innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out eight, and walking none. Both of Detroit’s runs came in the second inning, when Trey Sweeny doubled home Spencer Torkelson and Zach McKinstry.

The Tigers welcome the Red Sox again today. Detroit has not named a starter. Cooper Criswell will open for Boston. Coverage will begin at 1:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

The win improved Skubal’s record to 16-4. He became the first major league pitcher to strike out 200 batters this season.

Jackson Chourio’s solo home run in the top of the ninth gave the Brewers a 5-4 victory over the Reds Saturday. Willy Adames also homered. Frankie Montas allowed four runs over six innings. Aaron Ashby got the win in relief. Devin Williams collected the save.

 The Brewers play at Cincinnati again this afternoon. Tobias Myers will pitch for Milwaukee. The Reds have not named a starter.

At the Copper Harbor Trails Festival Saturday…
 • Chad Cannon from Neenah, Wisconsin won the long mountain bike race, more than two minutes ahead of runner-up Hunter Bell from Brighton, Michigan. Marjorie Bemis from Indianapolis was the fastest woman.
 • Brandon Tobias from New Prague, Minnesota claimed the medium mountain bike event, with nearly a minute advantage over Bob Griswold from Kohler, Wisconsin. Megan Seiler from Muskego, wisconsin was the fastest woman.
 • The short mountain bike race went to Will Thome of Saint Paul, Minnesota. Houghton’s Elizabeth Scott was the runner-up, and fastest woman.
 • Bodee McFadden from Duluth took the downhill crown, edging out Ryan Zinzow from Whitewater, Wisconsin.
