College Soccer

The Michigan Tech soccer team plays at Northwood University today at noon.

College Hockey

Michigan Tech forward Isaac Gordon and defenseman Chase Pietila have been selected to the preseason All Central Collegiate Hockey Association team. Gordon was the league’s Rookie of the Year last season. He, Lucas Wahlin of St. Thomas, and Connor Milburn of Lake Superior State split the preseason Player of the Year votes equally.

MLB

The Tigers pulled out a 7-6 comeback win over the Royals last night. Detroit fell behind early when Bobby Witt, Jr. hit a grand slam off Reese Olson in the third inning. The rebound began with one run in the fourth. Colt Keith’s home run powered a three-run fifth inning, and they added three more in the sixth, as Matt Vierling singled home Wenceel Pérez with the game-winner.

The Tigers visit the Royals again tonight. Casey Mize will start against Cole Ragans. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99-3 The Lift.

Olson was brought off the injured list to start last night’s contest. Ricky Vanasco was sent down to Toledo.

The Twins lost, so Detroit is now one-and-a-half games back in the race for the final American League wild card playoff berth. The Mariners are another half-game back. Minnesota holds the tiebreaker over Detroit.

The Brewers cruised past the Phillies 6-2. Aaron Civale gave up a run over five innings. Blake Perkins had two hits and scored twice.

The Brewers entertain the Phillies again tonight. Frankie Montas will pitch against Zack Wheeler.

Reliever Joel Payamps pulled himself from last night’s contest with forearm stiffness. He’ll be evaluated today.

The win means that any combination of two Milwaukee victories or Cubs losses will clinch the Central Division title for the Brewers.

NFL

In last night’s contest, the Falcons shaded the Eagles 22-21. Kirk Cousins hit Drake London with a seven-yard touchdown pass with 34 seconds remaining to win the game.
