Finlandia University has named Curtis Wittenberg as Athletic Director, following the resignation of Kristan Schuster.

Schuster had only held the position since May 9th, when she was appointed to replace Chris Salani. She has also resigned as the school’s head volleyball coach. A press release from the university said she was leaving for “personal reasons.” Assistant coach Aubrey Havlichek is now serving as the acting head coach of the university’s volleyball team.

Wittenberg has spent 13 years at Finlandia, and held several positions as a coach and an administrator. He most recently has been Associate Director of Athletics and Compliance.

“No one knows Finlandia athletics better than Curtis,” President Philip Johnson said. “He has, throughout his 13-year career at Finlandia, demonstrated an extraordinary capacity for hard work and seeing initiatives through to completion. He is committed to building on the good work of his predecessors, and to making his own mark on Finlandia athletics. I am confident that Curtis can provide the leadership Finlandia needs at this time.”

“I am excited and honored to be named director of athletics,” said Wittenberg. “I look forward to working with our great coaching staff in advancing our athletic programs into the future.”

Finlandia University has 14 NCAA Division III athletic programs including hockey, football, basketball, volleyball, golf, soccer, cross country, baseball and softball.
