MLB – Astros Outslug Tigers
Anibal Sanchez struggled again, and the Detroit Tigers lost to the Houston Astros 10-8 Sunday. Sanchez gave up three runs in the first inning. He then settled in, and struck out 11 before getting into trouble again in the sixth. He wound up being charged with seven runs. Alex Wilson relieved him, and took the loss. The Tigers scored five runs in the bottom of the first – three on a bases-loaded double by Bryan Holaday – but couldn’t hold the lead.
Starting pitcher Kyle Lobstein was placed on the disabled list yesterday with inflammation in his throwing shoulder. Lobstein underwent an MRI yesterday morning, after leaving Saturday’s game with some discomfort. For now, shortstop Dixon Machado has been recalled from Toledo to fill the empty roster spot. Buck Farmer will come up from the Mud Hens to cover Lobstein’s next start.
The Tigers begin a West Coast trip today with a game at Oakland. Shane Greene will start against Jesse Hahn. Hear the first pitch at 4:05 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
Atlanta rookie Mike Foltynewicz outdueled Milwaukee starter Jimmy Nelson yesterday, as the Brewers fell to the Braves 2-1. Foltynewicz gave up a run on three hits before leaving in the eighth inning. Nelson pitched scoreless ball until the sixth, when he left after giving up both Atlanta runs.
The Brewers return home to begin a series against the Giants this afternoon. Kyle Lohse will start against Tim Lincecum.
