Salani’s Hat Trick Powers Bulldogs’ OT Win – Wednesday Sports Wrap

In high school hockey last night, Austin Salani’s third goal of the game lifted Hancock to a 5-4 overtime win over Marquette. The Redmen had forced the extra period with a goal in the closing seconds of regulation.

In high school girls basketball last night…
– Hancock overcame an early deficit to edge Calumet 43-41. Elli Djerf and Marybeth Halonen each scored 12 for the Copper Kings.
– Ontonagon shut down Lake Linden-Hubbell 66-19.
– Baraga got past Chassell 35-24.
– L’Anse edged Iron Mountain 63-61.
– Ewen-Trout Creek overpowered Republic-Michigamme 66-17.

There was one girls game on the schedule tonight – Dollar Bay-Tamarack City at Jeffers. That game has been rescheduled to February 20th.

In last night’s only local boys game, Houghton defeated Escanaba 60-52. George Butvilas led the Gremlins with 22 points.

Both the Houghton swim teams earned easy victories over Ishpeming yesterday – the girls 155-53, and the boys 137-37.

The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Washington Capitals 6-2 last night. Dylan Larkin and Gustav Nyquist scored for Detroit. Jonathan Bernier gave up five goals before Jimmy Howard replaced him in net midway through the game. The Wings host the Ottawa Senators Friday night.
