Eduardo Rodriguez’ return from the injured list was a rocky one last night, as the Tigers suffered an ugly 12-3 loss to the Athletics. Rodriguez struggled through four innings, allowing five runs on six hits. Oakland added seven more runs off relievers Mason Englert and Zach Logue. Detroit collected just four hits, including RBI doubles by Miguel Cabrera and Jonathan Schoop.
Those teams play in Detroit again this afternoon. All Star Michael Lorenzen will start against Hogan Harris. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
To make room for Rodriguez on the roster, the Tigers sent pitcher Garrett Hill down to Toledo.
The Cubs scored three runs in the top of the ninth, and stunned the Brewers 4-3 last night. The damage came off closer Devin Williams, and spoiled a good start by Adrian Houser, who gave up a run over five innings. Willy Adames homered for the Crew.
The Brewers host the Cubs again this afternoon. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Marcus Stroman.

• JB’s defeated Superior Service 7-2. Grace Brunet was the winning pitcher. Corey Jahfetson hit an out-of-the park home run.
• Gold Standard shut down Superior National Bank 11-1. Payten Goldsworthy was the winning pitcher. Sarah Audette had a double and two singles and Kara Kinnunen and Ashlyn Steves each had two singles for Gold Standard.
• REL defeated Tervo Agency 10-2. Vera Peterson was the winning pitcher. Delaney Anderson had a double and two singles for REL, and Hannah Asiala had three singles.
Twilight League Baseball
The Copper Country Twilight Baseball League’s annual Leo Durocher Memorial Tournament begins tonight…
• Garnet Garage faces Northern Driveline at the Stanton field.
• Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker meets REL – Mohawk Technology at the Wolverine field.

NBA
The Pistons have signed first-round draft pick Marcus Sasser to a rookie contract. Terms were not disclosed. Detroit traded up in the draft to get Sasser with the 25th pick. He’s a point guard who played college ball at Houston.
Running
The Chassell Booster Club is holding its first Pike Bay 5K Run Saturday morning, as part of this year’s Strawberry Festival. On site registration opens at 7:00 at the Chassell School, and the race begins at 8:00. The cost is $25 for adults, and $15 for kids. Proceeds will benefit the Chassell Schools’ Positive Behavior Initiative. See details here.
College Hockey
The National Collegiate Hockey Conference is expanding. The league has voted to admit Arizona State, beginning in the 2024-2025 season. The vote was unanimous, despite some members’ concerns about potential travel costs and distance.
Arizona State has scheduled as an independent since establishing an NCAA Division I program in 2015. A previous application for NCHC membership had been denied.
