Ricci, Salani to Join Hancock Athletic Hall of Fame

John “Topper” Ricci and current Bulldogs Athletic Director Chris Salani  will be inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame tomorrow evening. 

Ricci graduated with the class of 1955, with three varsity football letters, four varsity track letters, and a portfolio filled with honors, including four Hancock and three U.P. track records. He went on to a distinguished career as a hockey official, and as an amateur fast pitch softball player. Ricci was inducted into the U.P. Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.

Salani graduated in 1992, with three football letters, four hockey letters, one golf letter, and two track and field letters. He earned All State honors in football and hockey. He earned four varsity football letters at Michigan State University, and also skated for the Spartans hockey squad. Salani served as athletic director for Finlandia University from 2002 to 2016, and now is the AD for the Hancock School District.

The induction ceremony will take place at approximately 8:00 PM Friday, July 26th at the Hancock All-School Reunion Mixer at the Houghton County Arena. Tickets to the mixer, and the ceremony, will be available at the door.

John lives in Hancock with wife Kay, where they raised their four
children, Mary Kay, Mary Jo, Brien and Ray.
