Tigers Snap Losing Streak
The Tigers broke out of their offensive slump with six runs in the first inning, and cruised to a 7-2 victory over the White Sox last night. The big blow in the inning was a three-run homer by Nick Castellanos. Max Scherzer did the rest, giving up just one run on five hits over seven innings to earn his 13th win of the season.
The Tigers conclude that set against the White Sox this afternoon. Drew Smyly will start against John Danks. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on AM 1400, WCCY.
Kansas City also won, so Detroit’s lead in the American League Central Division remains at five games.
Tigers’ pitcher Evan Reed has been formally charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual assault. A 45-year-old woman says Reed accosted her March 30th at a Detroit hotel. Despite the allegation, Reed started the season with Detroit. He was sent down to Toledo in June.
Brewers Shut Down Rays
Yovani Gallardo outpitched David Price, as the Brewers blanked the Rays 5-0 yesterday. Gallardo threw seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits. Martin Maldonado drove in four runs for Milwaukee.
The Brewers have today off, and open a series at Saint Louis tomorrow night. Wily Peralta will start against Adam Wainwright.
Both Pittsburgh and Saint Louis lost yesterday, so Milwaukee now leads the National League Central Division by two games over the Pirates, and two-and-a-half over the Cardinals.
