The Detroit Red Wings took a 2-0 lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second period of last night’s playoff game… but Tampa scored twice in the third period to tie it, and won it 3-2 on Tyler Johnson’s goal in overtime. The best-of-seven series is tied at two wins per team. Game five will be played tomorrow. Face-off is at 6:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Luke Glendening left last night’s game in the third period, after suffering a cut to his hand. He expects to be ready for tomorrow’s game.

MLB – Tigers Drop Series to Yanks
The Detroit Tigers fell to the New York Yankees 2-1 yesterday afternoon. Detroit scored in the first inning, when Victor Martinez drove in Anthony Gose with a sacrifice fly. New York tied it in the sixth inning when Anibal Sanchez was called for a balk while throwing to the plate when runner Jacoby Ellsbury broke toward home from third base. Tom Gorzelanny took the loss when Brian McCann scored on a groundout in the eighth inning.

After a record-setting start, the Tigers have now lost three of their last four games. They open a weekend home set against the Cleveland Indians tonight. Shane Greene will start against Danny Salazar. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Cincinnati Reds 4-2 yesterday. Jean Segura drove in the game-winner with a single in the seventh inning to break Milwaukee’s eight-game losing streak. Kyle Lohse turned in seven strong innings to earn his first win of the season.

The Brewers host the Saint Louis Cardinals in a weekend series beginning tonight. Matt Garza will pitch against Carlos Martinez.

Finlandia Softball Begins Tourney Play
GSAC LogoThe Finlandia University softball team opens play at the Great South Athletic Conference tournament this morning. The fourth-seeded Lions will take on top-seed Agnes Scott College. The tourney is being held at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. Finlandia will play a second game against either second-seed Salem College or third-seed Weselyan College this afternoon.

The Finlandia University men’s basketball team has added 6-foot-6 forward Terrance Fuller of Sault Ste. Marie High School for the 2015-16 season. Fuller is coming off back-to-back MVP seasons in the Straights Area Conference, where he also earned first team honors for three straight years. He averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds this season, and set the school’s single-season blocked shot record.

MTU Men’s Hoops Season Awards Announced
Ben Stelzer was named the Most Valuable Player for the the Michigan Tech men’s basketball team yesterday. Stelzer was selected as the Ken Hamar Award winner. Jordan Chartier earned the Bill Gappy Award as the team’s most improved player. The Bob Olson Award for the team’s outstanding newcomer went to freshman Dillon Gordon from Trout Creek. Troy Hecht won the Harold Meese Sportsmanship Award. Kyle Stankowski took home the scholastic achievement award for the third consecutive year with his 3.92 cumulative grade point average in electrical engineering.

SISU Shuffle Tomorrow
The Sisu Shuffle will begin at 11:00 tomorrow morning at the U.P. Health System-Portage Hancock campus. This non-competitive 5K event is designed for the whole family. Walk, jog, run, trot, or shuffle. Afterward, six bikes will be given away to registered participants. Registration is free.
