Jose Iglesias’ two-run homer against his former team powered the Detroit Tigers to a 4-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox last night. Iglesias’ shot in the sixth inning made a winner of Justin Verlander, who gave up one run over six innings. Detroit added a run in the seventh on a James McCann single, and another in the eighth on a single by Victor Martinez. Boston’s second run came in the eighth, off Justin Wilson. Wilson left the game with the bases loaded. Francisco Rodriguez snuffed the rally, and then pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 28th save.
The Tigers continue a three-game set at Boston tonight. Mike Pelfrey will pitch against knuckleballer Steven Wright. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
Injured Tigers starters Daniel Norris and Jordan Zimmermann will each make at least one more rehab start before coming off the disabled list. Zimmermann was effective in his first start for the Toledo Mud Hens on Sunday, but threw just 50 pitches. Norris struggled on Saturday. Matt Boyd and Anibal Sanchez will remain in the Detroit rotation, for now.
The Milwaukee Brewers scored four runs in the sixth inning, and powered past the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2 last night. The Brewers host the Diamondbacks again tonight. Matt Garza will pitch against Patrick Corbin.

With an arbitration hearing looming tomorrow, there’s a lot of distance between what Detroit Red Wings goalie Petr Mrazek thinks he’s worth, and what the team wants to pay him. The club has suggested a two-year contract worth six-million dollars. Mrazek has proposed a two-year deal worth 10-million. If no agreement is reached today, the arbitrator can select either suggestion, or can pick a figure anywhere in between. The Wings also face an arbitration hearing with Danny DeKeyser on Thursday.
