In boys basketball this evening…
• Houghton entertains Hancock. Coverage begins around 7:00 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
 • Calumet plays at Lake Linden-Hubbell. The JV game tips off at 4:30, and the varsity at 5:45.
 • L’Anse visits Chassell – varsity tipoff will take place at 6:00.

College Basketball

The Northern Michigan basketball team stopped Lawrence University 89-62 last night.

NHL

The Red Wings lost to the Wild 4-1 last night. Elmer Soderblum scored Detroit’s only goal. Magnus Hellberg made 18 saves in his first appearance for Detroit this season.

The Wings host the Senators Saturday afternoon.

Former Michigan Tech hockey standout Jake Lucchini made his NHL debut for the Ottawa Senators last night. In nearly 11 minutes of playing time, he had one shot on goal.

NBA

The Pistons outscored the Hornets 141-134 in overtime last evening. Alec Burks scored 27 for Detroit. Killian Hayes added 25, and Bojan Bogdanovic had 24. Jalen Duren collected 19 rebounds.

The Pistons entertain the Kings tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL

In tonight’s NFL game, the 49ers visit the Seahawks. Coverage will begin at 7:30 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Tigers have added a veteran starting pitcher. There are multiple reports that they have signed right-hander Michael Lorenzen to a one-year, $8.5 million contract. Lorenzen compiled a record of 8-6 with a 4.24 earned run average for the Angels last season. His deal remains pending, until he passes a physical.

Detroit also confirmed the return of starter Matthew Boyd yesterday, on a one-year, $10 million contract.

The Brewers obtained infielder Owen Miller from the Guardians yesterday, in exchange for a player to be named later, or cash considerations.
