Pistons Win, Wings Fall in OT – Thursday Sports Wrap

The Detroit Red Wings took a 2-1 lead into the third period, but fell to the Boston Bruins 3-2 in overtime last night. Frank Vatrano scored the game-winner late in the extra period – his second goal of the evening. Pavel Datsyuk scored his 300th career goal for Detroit, and Tomas Tatar also scored. Petr Mrazek made 19 saves. The Wings host the Edmonton Oilers tomorrow night. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Andre Drummond scored 18 points, grabbed 20 rebounds, blocked five shots, and led the Detroit Pistons to a 104-81 victory over the Miami Heat last night. Reggie Jackson also scored 18, as the Piston won for just the third time in their last nine games. Detroit plays at Oklahoma City tomorrow night.

The Detroit Lions host the Philadelphia Eagles in a 12:30 game today. The Dallas Cowboys entertain the Carolina Panthers in the late afternoon game. Brett Favre’s number will be retired at Lambeau Field tonight, as the Green Bay Packers welcome the Chicago Bears. Hear all three games on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Alex Avila’s time with the Detroit Tigers is officially over. The son of general manager Al Avila signed a one-year free agent deal with the Chicago White Sox yesterday. He’ll make 2.5-million dollars. Avila made the All-Star team in 2011. Since then, he has struggled with injuries, and his offensive production has decreased. Last season, he hit just .191, and lost his starting job to James McCann.
