MLB
The Detroit Tigers have signed catcher Dillon Dingler. The former Ohio State University star was their second round pick in the recent amateur draft. Three of Detroit’s draftees remain unsigned, including top overall pick Spencer Torkelson.
Meanwhile, there’s still no deal for a 2020 baseball season. The owners’ proposal for a 60-game regular season with full prorated pay was rejected yesterday by the players, who countered with a 70-game schedule. The financial difference between the two proposals is reported to be less than $10 million per team.
NBA
As expected, the Detroit Pistons have named Troy Weaver their general manager. Weaver spent the last dozen seasons with the Oklahoma Thunder, most recently as their Vice President of Basketball Operations. Detroit has been without a general manager for two years, following the dismissal of Jeff Bower. During that time, Senior Advisor Ed Stefanski has filled the role.
