Pistons Fall to Nuggets – Wednesday Sports Wrap

NBA

The Detroit Pistons couldn’t overcome a terrible start, and lost to the Denver Nuggets 95-92 last night. Detroit trailed by 27 at halftime. Their second half comeback fell short when Blake Griffin’s three-pointer at the buzzer bounced off the rim. Griffin led the Pistons with 29 points. Detroit has lost three straight, and will host the Orlando Magic tomorrow evening.

With eight regular season games remaining, the Pistons are seventh in the race for the eight Eastern Conference playoff spots. They’re a half-game behind the Brooklyn Nets, a half-game ahead of Orlando Magic, a game ahead of the Miami Heat, and two games ahead of the Charlotte Hornets.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Buffalo Sabres tomorrow night. Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers lost 9-3 to the Tampa Bay Rays in their final preseason game yesterday. Starter Matt Moore struggled, giving up four runs over three innings. The Tigers will open their season tomorrow afternoon at Toronto. Coverage will begin at 3:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Tigers filled out their opening day roster yesterday by adding outfielder Dustin Peterson. He’ll help fill in for injured center fielder JaCoby Jones.

The Milwaukee Brewers collected just five hits in a 2-0 exhibition loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in Montreal yesterday. The Brewers will begin their regular season tomorrow at home against the Saint Louis Cardinals.

NFL

The National Football League has decided to allow video review of pass interference penalties. Coaches will be able to challenge calls – and non-calls – during most of the game. Replays during the final two minutes of each half will be initiated by the booth official.

The Calumet Wolverines and the Portage Lake Pioneers will open the Great Lakes Hockey League playoffs Friday. The Pioneers will face the Fox Cities Ice Dogs at 9:00 in the morning, and then play the West Bend Bombers at 5:15 in the afternoon. The Wolverines will take on the Eagle River Falcons at 10:30 Friday night, and then play the De Pere Deacons Saturday morning at 9:00. Hear all of their games on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
