MLB
The Detroit Tigers pounded the Twins 11-0 yesterday. Anibal Sanchez gave up three hits before leaving in the seventh inning. Four relievers completed the Tigers’ second-straight shutout. Jose Iglesias had four hits, and Ian Kinsler drove in four runs. The Tigers wrap up that set against the Twins this afternoon. Shane Greene will start against Kyle Gibson. The parade of relievers in yesterday’s game did not include Joe Nathan. After striking out one batter to close Monday’s win, Nathan was placed on the disabled list yesterday with a right flexor strain. Blaine Hardy has been called up from Toledo to fill in.
Justin Verlander joins him on the DL. Verlander’s strained triceps muscle is still acting up. Kyle Lobstein will start in his place Sunday against Cleveland.
The Milwaukee Brewers scored two runs in the ninth to force extra innings, but then lost to the Rockies 5-4 in the 10th. Wilin Rosario’s solo homer off Francisco Rodriguez was the game-winner. The Brewers have today off, and entertain the Pirates tomorrow night. Mike Fiers will start against Jeff Locke.
NHL – Red Wings Visit Montreal
The Detroit Red Wings skate at Montreal this evening. The Wings will be probably be without Justin Abdelkader, who suffered a hand injury in Saturday’s game. There are no broken bones, but it remains so swollen he can’t grip a hockey stick. There is no timetable for his return. Detroit will certainly be without Erik Cole for the rest of the season. The Wings traded for Cole last month. On March 24th, he suffered a spinal contusion. Doctors have told him not to play again this season, and that the injury could end his career.
NBA – Pistons Fall to Celtics
The Detroit Pistons’ longshot chance at an NBA playoff berth ended last night with a 113-103 loss to the Boston Celtics. Andre Drummond led Detroit with 22 points and 14 rebounds. The Pistons have four games remaining, beginning with a home contest against the Pacers tomorrow night.
Finlandia
The Finlandia softball team will play two games at Wisconsin-Oshkosh this afternoon.
NCAA Hockey Tourney
The semifinals of the NCAA Hockey Tournament will be played tonight. Providence takes on Nebraska-Omaha at 5:00, and North Dakota meets Boston University at 8:30. Hear both games on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
