MLB – Tigers Fall in 10th
Carlos Sanchez’ bases-loaded triple in the top of the 10th inning powered the Chicago White Sox to an 8-7 victory over the Detroit Tigers yesterday afternoon. After giving up those three runs in the top of the 10th, the Tigers nearly extended the game by scoring two in the bottom of the 10th on a bases-loaded single by Bryan Holaday. Josh Wilson struck out with the bases loaded to end the game. Joba Chamberlain took the loss. Ian Kinsler and J.D. Martinez homered for Detroit.

The Tigers continue that home series with the Chicago White Sox this evening. Anibal Sanchez will pitch against Jose Quintana. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

The Milwaukee Brewers got just four hits, and fell to the New York Mets 2-0 yesterday.

The Brewers begin an interleague set with the Minnesota Twins this evening. Kyle Lohse will start against Trevor May.

– At the Dollar Bay field, Blue Sky Health edged the Stanton Wildcats 3-2. Jason Koski singled in the winning run in the sixth inning, and Dave Wesa went the distance to earn the win.
– At the Wolverine field, Pat’s Foods/Mosquito Inn blanked Wolverine/Orbit 9-0. The game was close until Pat’s broke it open with seven runs in the seventh inning. Lee Naugle and Marco Guidotti combined to hold Wolverine to just two hits.

NBA Draft
The Detroit Pistons used the eighth pick in last night’s NBA Amateur Draft to select University of Arizona forward Stanley Johnson. Johnson is 6’7”. He’s just 19 years old, and averaged 14 points and six rebounds per game in his single season with the Wildcats. In the second round, Detroit selected shooting guard Darrun Hilliard from Villanova. As expected, Kentucky’s Karl-Anthony Towns was selected first overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Red Wings Unveil 2015-2016 Schedule
Red Wings LogoThe Detroit Red Wings released their 2015-2016 schedule yesterday. They’ll open the regular season on October 9th against former head coach Mike Babcock and the Toronto Maple Leafs. They’ll play an outdoor stadium game in Denver against the Avalanche on February 27th. We’ll broadcast Red Wings’ games again this season on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Former Lions’ Coach Hudspeth Passes
Former Detroit Lions head coach Tommy Hudspeth has died. Hudspeth replaced Rick Forzano four games into the 1976 season. He coached the team through the 1977 season. Hudspeth had been battling cancer. He was 83.

U.P. All Star Football Game Tomorrow
The annual U.P. Football All-Star Game will be played tomorrow. Local players competing on the North team roster include Ben Collaer from Houghton… Ben Eskola, Jordan Johnson, Tyler Loukus and Kaden Kangas from Calumet… Brandon Kemppainen from L’Anse… Myles Rajala from Hancock… Tyler Roose and Nic Walli from Lake Linden-Hubbell… Michael Turunen from Baraga… and Henry Kayne Williams from Ewen-Trout Creek. Seven of the 80 players involved in the game, including Walli, have committed to play at Finlandia University. Kickoff is at 3:00 at the Superior Dome.
