NBA

The NBA Draft last night, the Pistons used the fifth pick to take Purdue guard Jaden Ivey. Detroit then traded for the rights to Memphis center Jalen Duren, who was taken by Memphis with the 13th pick. After the Grizzlies traded Duren’s rights to the Knicks, the Pistons gave New York the 2025 first round pick they got from the Warriors in the Jerami Grant trade. Detroit also took on the contract of veteran guard Kemba Walker. Walker missed much of last season with injuries, and it’s expected the Pistons will use some of the salary cap space they cleared in the Grant trade to buy out the final year of his deal. With the 36th selection, Detroit took Italian small forward Gabriele Procida, who is considered a long-term project.

There was a bit of a surprise when the draft opened, and the Magic used the first pick on Duke forward Paolo Banchero. The Thunder selected Gonzaga forward Chet Holmgren with second pick. The Bucks grabbed forward MarJon Beauchamp from the G League. They nabbed French point guard Hugo Besson with the 58th and final pick of the draft.

The Brewers got past the Cardinals 6-4 yesterday. Jason Alexander pitched into the sixth, gave up all four Saint Louis runs, and got the win. Tyrone Taylor and Willy Adames homered.
