MLB – Tigers
The Pittsburgh Pirates scored four runs in the ninth inning, and completed a sweep of the Detroit Tigers with an 8-4 victory yesterday. Pittsburgh scored single runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings, while Detroit could get nothing going against Francisco Liriano. J.D. Martinez closed the cap with a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth, but the Pirates teed off on Bruce Rondon and Tom Gorzelanny to put the game away.
The Tigers will reportedly purchase the contract of right-handed reliever Jeff Ferrell from Toledo before tonight’s game. Ferrell had been pitching at Double-A Erie until his promotion to the Mud Hens less than a week ago. Through last season, he was a starter. There’s no word as to who will be cut to make room on the 25-man roster.

Pistons Add Players
The Detroit Pistons added four players to their roster yesterday, while an expected departure was confirmed.
Say “goodbye” to free agent Greg Monroe, who signed a three-year, 50-million dollar deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Say “hello” to free agent center Aron Baynes, who was signed to a three year contract that could be worth as much as 20-million dollars. Baynes averaged seven points and five rebounds per game for the Spurs last season, and will probably back up starting center Andre Drummond.
And, say “hello” to Marcus Morris, Danny Granger and Reggie Bullock… all of whom were obtained from the Phoenix Suns, who dumped their contracts in exchange for a single second-round draft choice in 2020. Morris averaged 10 points and five rebounds last season, and signed a four-year, 20-million dollar extension that begins this season. He could compete for the starting small forward spot. Granger was once a top scorer, but has battled injuries the past several seasons. This is the final year of his contract. Bullock was the Clipper’s top draft pick in 2013, but hasn’t made much of an impact.
