The Portage Lake Pioneers claimed the Gibson Cup with a 3-2 victory over the Calumet Wolverines in Game Two of the series Saturday night. Spencer Donnelly put Portage Lake on the board just 26 seconds into the game. Cody Sivonen added to the Pioneers’ lead, but Carson Kariniemi trimmed the margin to one with a Wolverines’ goal late in the first period. In the second period, Matt Marchel scored for the Pioneers, and Miiko Karstu netted one for the Wolverines. The third period was scoreless, as Portage Lake held off Calumet on a game-ending power play.
College Hockey
Quinnipiac won the NCAA Division I men’s hockey tournament title Saturday night, with a 3-2 victory over the University of Minnesota.
NHL
The Red Wings lost 5-1 to the Penguins Saturday afternoon. Pius Suter scored Detroit’s only goal. Ville Husso stopped 232 shots, and took the loss in net.
The Wings begin the final week of their season at home against Dallas tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Pistons visit the Bulls this afternoon.
MLB
The Tigers suffered an ugly 14-5 loss to the Red Sox Saturday. Starter Joey Wentz couldn’t find the plate, and left in the second with the bases loaded, after walking in two runs. Reliever Garrett Hill surrendered a grand slam to Rafael Devers, and the rout was on.
The Tigers host the Sox again this afternoon. Matthew Boyd will face Kutter Crawford. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Tigers outfielder Austin Meadows has been placed on the injured list, dealing with anxiety and mental health issues. Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris released a statement commending Meadows for confronting his challenges head-on, and asking fans to join the team in supporting him. Akil Baddoo has been called up from Toledo to fill in.
The Brewers scratched out just five hits, and lost to the Cardinals 6-0 Saturday. Eric Lauer gave up all six runs over four innings, and took the loss.
The Brewers entertain the Cardinals again today. Freddy Peralta will start against Jake Woodford.
