MLB

The Tigers fell to the Guardians 5-4 last night. Detroit took a brief lead in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run Wenceel Pérez homer. Cleveland responded with five middle-of-the-game runs off Alex Faedo and Joey Wentz. Detroit made it close with two in the top of the seventh inning, but couldn’t close the gap.

The Tigers continue that series at Cleveland tonight. Jack Flaherty will pitch against Tanner Bibee. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Reese Olson’s achy shoulder has been diagnosed as a mild strain. He won’t need surgery, and no timetable has been offered for his potential return.

The Brewers shaded the Cubs 1-0 last evening. Brice Turang singled home Jake Bauers with the game’s only run in the top of the eighth. Colin Rae and four relievers combined to throw the shutout, with Trevor Magill getting the win.

The Brewers conclude that series in Chicago this afternoon. Milwaukee has not named a starter. Justin Steele will open for the Cubs.

Christian Yelich left last night’s contest with back pain. Manager Pat Murphy said he could be headed to the injured list. After being designated for assignment earlier this week, pitcher Joel Kuhnel was claimed off waivers by the Rays

College Hockey

The Northern Michigan University hockey team has picked up another recruit. Colby Browne is a forward who was the captain of the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Whitecourt Wolverines, where he compiled 68 points in 57 games last season.
