MTU – Pearson Named Coach of Year
Michigan Tech hockey coach Mel Pearson has been named the College Hockey News Coach of the Year. In his fourth season, Pearson led the Huskies to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 34 years. Their 29-win season was the third-best in school history, and the Huskies reached number-one in the national rankings in November, after starting the season unranked.
NHL – Red Wings Lose Shootout to Senators
The Detroit Red Wings lost a 2-1 shootout decision to the Ottawa Senators last night. The Wings looked to be closing in on a narrow victory, until Ottawa’s Clarke MacArthur scored with four minutes remaining in regulation. Petr Mrazek stopped 34 shots to keep Detroit in the game. The Wings host the Bruins tomorrow night. Face-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
NBA – Pistons Upset Hawks
Andre Drummond scored 22 points, as the Detroit Pistons upended the Atlanta Hawks 105-95 last night. Detroit has won six of the eight games they’ve played since Greg Monroe strained his right knee. They also got limited time from Reggie Jackson, who was sick… and Spencer Dinwiddie, who sprained his ankle early in the game. They won’t have much time to rest – the Pistons play at Charlotte tonight. Tip-off is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
MLB
David Price dominated the Pirates for three innings yesterday, then gave up four runs in the fourth, as the Detroit Tigers lost to Pittsburgh 7-3. The Tigers face the Astros this afternoon. A succession of bullpen candidates will pitch, starting with Kyle Ryan.
Mike Fiers gave up three runs over five innings, as the Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Cincinnati Red 10-4 yesterday. The Brewers will play the Cubs this afternoon. Kyle Lohse will make his final spring start.
NFL
The Green Bay Packers have re-signed defensive tackles Letroy Guion and DT B.J. Raji. The official announcement was made yesterday.
