Paredes’ Slam Rouses Tigers – Saturday Sports Wrap

MLB

The Detroit Tigers snapped two losing streaks last night, with a 10-5 victory over the Cleveland Indians. Detroit fell behind early, as Michael Fulmer gave up five runs over three innings. The Tigers roared back with seven runs in the fourth inning. The big blow was Isaac Paredes’ first career home run – a grand slam. Jonathan Schoop and Victor Reyes also homered for Detroit, while five Tigers relievers combined to toss six shutout innings.

It was Detroit’s first win in their last 10 games, and the first win after 20 consecutive losses to the Indians.

The Tigers play in Cleveland again tonight. Matthew Boyd will start against Triston McKenzie, who will make his major league debut.

Cleveland manager Terry Francona missed last night’s game after undergoing surgery for a gastrointestinal ailment. Francona had skipped the Indians’ recent road trip because of the condition, and it’s hoped this procedure will enable him to rejoin the club soon. He has undergone multiple surgeries for the condition over the past year.

The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-2 last evening. Adrian Houser gave up four runs over seven innings, and took the loss. Ben Gamel and Christian Yelich homered.

The Brewers play at Pittsburgh again this afternoon. Josh Lindblom will pitch against Derek Holland.
